ABOUT US
It was first of all to talk about my region, the old coal basin.
What it was: an important industrial center, avoiding rural exodus for 150 years then suffering the sudden cessation of almost all its industries (coal and steel) from 1963 to 1987.
What it is currently: a dynamic living area which has finally mourned this past and which has been reborn.
Subsequently I wanted to try to promote ecological construction.
As a former artisan mason, I have long been sensitive to the preservation of the rural heritage of our countryside.
After a very major renovation, I was able to open in April 2013.
Why the name “Mineur-Peasant” for my eco-gite?
For 3 reasons:
Because it is evocative of the ancient life of this territory and in memory of my grandfather.
From the 1830s, Duke Decazes, former French ambassador to England, assisted by the polytechnician Cabrol transformed this marshy valley floor into a very large mining and steelmaking site.
Like my grandfather, the small farmers became miners. The activity grew day by day until the 1960s and 1980s when everything stopped, a century and a half later.
Now a new life is finally hatching. The solidarity necessary deep in the mines still permeates this endearing territory for those who take the time to discover it.
This industrial history is unique on Via Podensis and it deserves to be known just as much as the old stones, simply because it is part of our human history.

To raise awareness of ecology, that is to say respect for life.
Perhaps my childhood spent in a former industrial site where “progress” was nothing other than a race for consumption to the point of killing lives due to catastrophic pollution made me understand, much later… that the game was not worth the effort!!!
I think that everyone, at their own level, must pay attention to the only planet we have to support us.

To raise awareness of organic products.
Very early on my parents paid attention to our food. We could say that ecology is good for the health of the planet and organic is good for our health.
Also in the cottage's small grocery store, alongside basic products you will find local products (the ecology of short circuits) and organic products.
